Strong, healthy relationships help young children feel safe, supported and ready to grow.
That is the heart behind Healthy Minds, Happy Hearts Family Fair, a free Sesame Street-themed family event coming to Rutherford County on Friday, October 9, from 5:00–7:30 p.m. at the Rutherford County Library.
Hosted by Partnership for Children of the Foothills with support from community partners, the event is designed to help families build connection while learning simple ways to support young children as they develop resilience and learn to manage big feelings.
“Children build resilience through the relationships and everyday experiences they share with the people who care for them,” said Vanessa Parton, executive director of Partnership for Children of the Foothills. “Healthy Minds, Happy Hearts gives families a fun way to connect while discovering simple tools they can use at home to support their children’s emotional well-being.”
Families can enjoy dinner together and move through several activity spaces throughout the evening. One area will feature Pop-Up Play to Learn activities for young children and their caregivers. Another will offer free resilience kits, books, diapers and hygiene kits. Families can also see how the resilience kits can be used at home through hands-on demonstrations of simple mindfulness activities that can become part of everyday routines.
The Rutherford County Library will provide story times during the event, creating another opportunity for families to slow down, enjoy a book together and connect.
Several community partners will also help make the evening special. Families can visit with the PBS Kids Rootle Ambassador, explore resources and activities from Healthy Blue, and connect with SAFE Kids, including bike helmet resources. A therapy dog and handler will also be part of the evening.
The goal is simple: to give families practical, enjoyable ways to strengthen connection and support children’s emotional development.
Small moments matter. Playing together, reading a story, practicing a calming activity or simply spending focused time together can all help children build the skills they need to face challenges with confidence and support.
